Oscar De La Hoya, the promoter, disclosed that he is in talks to participate in a Golden Boy Promotions – Matchroom Boxing 5 vs. 5 event in 2025. De La Hoya would compete by pairing Eddie Hearn's top five available men with five of his best Golden Boy fighters. To determine who has the best guys, the two fighters would compete. The Golden Boy-Matchroom Duel Golden Boy promoter Oscar De La Hoya told Fight Hub TV that he and Eddie Hearn's Matchroom Boxing were intending to compete in a five-on-five match next year, adding, "We're continuing to do discussions and preparing to do some big things in 2025." Potential choices for 5 vs. 5 William Zepedia vs. Shakur Stevenson Diego Pacheco vs. Edgar Berlanga or Bektemir Melikuziev Opetaia Jai vs. Ramirez Gilberto "Zurdo" Oscar Duarte vs. Ernesto Mercado; Ricardo Sandoval vs. Galal Yafai Floyd Schofield Jr., one of De La Hoya's fighters, is already scheduled to face Hearn's opponent, WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson, at Turki Al-Sheikh's event in Riyadh on February 22. Oscar is certain that in that fight, Schofield will defeat Shakur.
