Teofimo Lopez Blasts “Punk” Haney

Teofimo Lopez told Devin Haney he thinks of his March 25th fight, calling him a “punk b***” on social media. WBO light welterweight champion Lopez (21-1, 13 KOs) seems bitter about Devin not accepting an offer for a fight against him. The offer was $2.4 million with a 55-45 split in favor of Teofimo, who feels he deserved the bigger cut because he’s the “king” of the 140-lb division. Haney is just an ex-champion, coming off a loss to Ryan Garcia on April 20th. Next up for Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) is a bout on March 25th on BLT Prime, where he will face an opponent whose identity has not been revealed. Since Haney is free to choose his opponents, the boxing community will be eager to watch their matchup on that date. After Garcia exposed Haney in his 12-round majority decision victory, fighters aren't scared to fight him. After that setback to Kingry, he seemed like easy prey to the wolves at 140, who are already circling him. It is Teofimo who is one of the wolves. When he sees wounded prey, he knows it. A lot of people think Ryan Garcia destroyed Haney, therefore they no longer think highly of him. Those who follow Devin's career believe he is emotionally and physically damaged because of his decision to fight on BLT Prime on March 25th. Many think the referee spared Devin's life in the seventh round by stopping the action to deduct a point from Ryan for hitting on the break, after he had already hit the deck three times in the fight. Garcia was about to knock Haney down at that moment. It made no difference if Ryan had knocked Haney out because the New York State Athletic Commission eventually reversed his loss. Joining Teofimo on a Top Rank-promoted program on March 15th on ESPN+ will be former IBF 140-lb champion Subriel Matias (21-2, 21 KOs). Lopez has struggled to secure the services of notable figures to challenge him. Haney, Jaron "Boots" Ennis, Ryan Garcia, Terence Crawford, and Gervonta Davis are among those he has singled out. Keyshawn Davis and Matias are the only lightweight contenders interested in facing Lopez. Since he is not a famous actor, he has no desire to battle Keyshawn.
