Kid Austin To “Overwhelm” Shakur If Hand Injury Re
Shakur Stevenson's sparring partner Kevin Johnson warned that the fighter could be in peril if Floyd "Kid Austin" Schofield's surgically repaired right hand failed to hold up in their bout on February 22 in Riyadh.
Johnson thinks Stevenson will win if he stays fit, but he could lose if he hurts his right hand again while fighting Schofield, who is 22 years old. According to him, Floyd used to "overwhelm" the one-armed Shakur with punches. The fight hinges on Shakur's fragile hands. For him, it's victory if they hold. Because of a malfunction in this region, the tiger shark known as "Kid Austin" finds him to be an easy target.
The Catch-22 of Peck and Run
When faced with a wounded Shakur, "Kid Austin" would be far more aggressive than Edwin De Los Santos. Even worse, he will be that way anyway.
Floyd would relentlessly pursue Stevenson and punish him with power shots, making it impossible for him to win by peck and run like he did against De Los Santos. His blows aren't as powerful as De Los Santos's, but they nevertheless land with enough force to hurt. Edwin might have won the bout by throwing Shakur out of the ring with more bravery when he trapped him.
Since hurting his hand while practicing for his bout with Joe Cordina on October 12th, WBC lightweight champion Shakur (22-0, 10 KOs) has remained out of action. He started preparing for his defense against Schofield last week after undergoing hand surgery (18-0, 12 KOs).
When 'Kid Austin' steps forward, I feel like Shakur automatically has a healthy hand. Kevin Johnson told Fighthype that WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson would give Floyd "Kid" Austin" Schofield a run for his money on February 22—that is, if Shakur's surgically repaired right hand holds up—but that the bout will be messy.
Schofield is confused about where to stand. Surprisingly, he has become both orthodox and southpaw. Further than that. He flings broadsides. Shakur Stevenson is the perfect fit for that approach. All this erratic punching and ill-advised footwork is like, "I'm going to hit your a**."
Switching exposes more of your body. Without a doubt, Shakur will come out on top in this. Now let's talk about his hand damage. It will be difficult if his hand fails him while he just has one hand. "You only got one hand," Johnson observed regarding Stevenson, despite his strong defense.
If Shakur is in good shape, he will use his hit-and-run strategy to win a dull 12-round decision, but he will not have an easy fight. Kid Austin will relentlessly assault him with strong blows. Regardless, he will bring disgrace upon Stevenson.
The Aggression of Austin
Since he would undoubtedly face boos at any American arena, it's fortunate for him that the bout will take place in Riyadh. Shakur lacks the mental and physical attributes necessary to compete in the lightweight class. In both areas, he is shy and easily hurt. Stevenson faces an uphill battle against a younger, braver, and more powerful opponent.
When setting up body shots, hooks, or any other kind of attack, you run the risk of losing that hand. One punch from Kid Austin is imminent. Therefore, he will barrage you with punches while you attempt to escape and land a solid blow. Put your other hand down. As a result, you're constrained, Johnson claimed.
