Jared Anderson to fight Marios Kollias in 'tune-up fight'

According to a person familiar with the discussions, Top Rank heavyweight Jared Anderson will make his comeback from his first professional defeat on February 14 at Madison Square Garden in New York against Marios Kollias of Greece, BoxingScene reported Monday. Keyshawn Davis' attempt to unseat new World Boxing Organization lightweight champion Denys Berinchyk will be the Valentine's Day card's headline event. Anderson, 17-1 (15 KOs), recently suffered a humiliating knockout loss to Martin Bakole in Los Angeles on August 3. Anderson was repeatedly knocked down by Congo's Bakole, 21-1 (16 KOs), in the opening round and twice more in the pivotal fifth round before he was stopped. The wealthy purse Anderson received from Turki Alalshikh of Saudi Arabia persuaded him to take the difficult test against Bakole, whose technique has been compared to George Foreman's. Anderson is from Toledo, Ohio. The 33-year-old Swedish fighter Anderson will face in Kollias, 12-3-1 (10 KOs) is coming off two fights in 2024, including a March loss to Kem Ljungquist via majority decision. The Kollias battle was referred to by one source as "a tune-up fight" for Anderson after his crushing loss in August. Although the official with knowledge of the agreement told BoxingScene that each fighter has already signed, Top Rank is anticipated to make the official Anderson–Kollias announcement soon.
