Johnny Walker out with bad injury
The UFC 311 lineup has suffered with only one week to go.
Due to a "bad injury," light heavyweight veteran Johnny Walker will not be able to face Bogdan Guskov on the Jan. 18 program at Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California. (ESPN+, ESPNews, ESPN+ pay-per-view)
After declaring his withdrawal on Saturday, Walker (21-9 MMA, 7-6 UFC) apologized to Guskov (16-3 MMA, 2-1 UFC), saying he could not continue to compete in the octagon due to his injury. The bout was supposed to be the featured preliminary bout on the UFC's first numbered event of the year.
"A serious injury has pulled me out," Walker stated in a social media video. I'm devastated to learn that I won't be competing. I worked really hard over the course of several months of intense training. We'd like to return and perform, but not this time. I hope Bogdan has a successful future. I hope he can locate a rival.
Whether the organization will find a substitute opponent to play Guskov with only seven days' notice is currently unknown.
