Ricky Hatton on Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua
Ricky Hatton on Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua
Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua are both displaying their age in the ring, so Ricky Hatton is urging them to think about retiring. However, he also wants to see them fight one another one last time for both of them.
This Thursday, 36-year-old Fury announced his retirement, but few believe it will last much longer than his other claims.
More than three years after his historic defeat to Manny Pacquiao, the 46-year-old Hatton retired from boxing in 2012 following a comeback defeat to Vyacheslav Senchenko.
From iFL TV:
"I believe they should both hang up their gloves now that they're both ready. They have had fantastic careers, but I believe that as the miles accumulate, their wear and strain is beginning to show.
But I believe, guys, one more battle. You understand what I mean? You don't want to spend every night of the week sitting on your couch, rubbing your balls and wondering, "What would have happened if I fought him?"
In the same way that Fury (34-2-1, 24 KO) and the 35-year-old Joshua (28-4, 25 KO) have never resolved their differences in the ring, Hatton's long-running media feud with Junior Witter is likely the one fight that did not occur during his career that he himself may still wonder about.
Despite Fury's retirement declaration, the general consensus seems to be that a fight between Fury and Joshua is still very much in the cards. Eddie Hearn claims that Wembley Stadium has been set aside for the summer to possibly host the fight, and Turki Alalshaikh has the financial means to make it happen.
Both fighters have recently suffered defeats: Joshua was brutally knocked out by Daniel Dubois in September, and Fury lost two decisions to Oleksandr Usyk in 2024.
