Dana 'jumped ship' from Jon Jones in pound-for-pound debate

Following UFC 311, Tom Aspinall is taken aback by Dana White's decision to rank Islam Makhachev as the top pound-for-pound fighter. For Saturday's main event at Intuit Dome, lightweight champion Makhachev (27-1 MMA, 16-1 UFC) accepted an opponent swap of Arman Tsarukyan for Renato Moicano, a move that was made just 24 hours before. Round 1 saw him defeat Moicano. Despite UFC CEO Dana White's criticisms, Makhachev is now the organization's top fighter in terms of pound-for-pound competition. When asked whether Makhachev's openness to fight anyone at any moment had influenced White's decision, White finally gave in, stating that UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones deserves to be number one. The remarks made by White are humorous to interim heavyweight champion Aspinall (15-3 MMA, 8-1 UFC), who is preparing for a possible title-unification fight with Jones (28-1 MMA, 22-1 UFC) this year. By pound-for-pound, Islam Makhachev is the best in the world, according to Dana White, Aspinall stated on his YouTube channel. Everyone knows that I think pound-for-pound is full of crap. That is not something that I investigate. It is amusing, though, that he has now abandoned Jon Jones for Islam. What a champion should do, and Islam did it by going out there and fighting whoever was in his way. He defied the UFC's orders and defeated his opponent, solidifying his position as the division's undisputed champion. As a huge Islam Makhachev supporter, I'm thrilled that he will retain the belt for the foreseeable future.
