Jaron 'Boots' Ennis-Eimantas Stanionis for April 12th
Jaron 'Boots' Ennis-Eimantas Stanionis for April 12th
On April 12 at Atlantic City, New Jersey's Boardwalk Hall, welterweights Jaron Ennis and Eimantas Stanionis will fight to unify two belts.
This will be the second defense of the IBF welterweight championship for Ennis, 33-0 (29 KOs), of neighboring Philadelphia, and the first defense of the WBA belt for Stanionis, 15-0 (9 KOs), of Kaunas, Lithuania, which he received when named complete champion in 2025. Live coverage of their bout can be found on DAZN.
They had both hoped for a unification bout, the boxers said.
This is the battle I've been anticipating, Ennis, who is 27 years old, declared. On April 12, I will make a bold statement that will showcase my best qualities; I truly believe that this is my moment in the spotlight. The moment has come to stand out, excel, and amass those belts.
The time Stanionis had been waiting for has finally arrived, he declared. Every drop of blood, every drop of sweat—it's all been for this battle. Even though Jaron "Boots" Ennis is an excellent fighter, I am prepared to defeat him. I will demonstrate my capabilities on April 12 in Atlantic City. This unification match is my moment to demonstrate my dominance in the welterweight class, and I will not let it pass me by. Let me have this moment.
Fight night in April will be the most challenging match for 30-year-old Ennis and Stanionis. They are both at the height of their careers and have been eagerly anticipating their championship-level showdown. In 2023, Ennis won the interim title by decision over Karen Chukhadzhian, paving the way for him to win the championship. Upon Terence Crawford's demotion to interim champion, he was subsequently promoted to full champion.
In a same vein, Stanionis became complete champion in August 2024 following Crawford's vacating of the WBA "regular" belt, which he had earned in 2022.
"This fight is absolutely outstanding," Eddie Hearn of Matchroom remarked. "I told Boots when we signed him that we would bring unifications for him, so it's amazing to see this done for Jaron. I have no doubt that he will perform even better than before in his biggest fight of his career.
"No better fight to promote our first event in the legendary Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City than this one between Eimantas and the other division top contenders. Eimantas is a truly remarkable fighter."
