Tony Ferguson parts ways with UFC

Tony Ferguson is leaving the UFC after almost 14 years. Ferguson (25-11 MMA, 15-9 UFC), the former interim UFC lightweight champion and winner of the "The Ultimate Fighter" reality series, has already found a possible new home after leaving the UFC after a long stint. Ferguson has signed a contract with Global Fight League ahead of its first draft after agreeing to his UFC split, according to multiple sources who spoke to MMA Junkie. Ferguson's eligibility for the draft was also revealed by the promotion on Friday. The new team-format MMA promotion, GFL, is scheduled to make its debut in 2025 and will begin its draft on Friday at 8 p.m. ET. After being called out by his former opponent, Kevin Lee (19–8), Ferguson already has an interested party. In addition, Lee has joined the GFL and is looking for a chance to exact revenge for losing to Ferguson via submission in their October 2017 interim lightweight title bout. Ferguson, 40, recently suffered a UFC record eighth consecutive defeat at UFC on ABC 7 after being submitted by Michael Chiesa. Ferguson maintains that he has some fight left in him despite UFC CEO Dana White's advice to put up his gloves. When Ferguson won 12 in a row, it was one of the longest winning runs in the company's history. Ferguson can now participate in the GFL draft on Friday. He will have a GFL contract if he is chosen by one of the teams. He will be a free agent otherwise.
