Tyron Woodley goes No. 1 overall in GFL draft

Tyron Woodley is indeed "The Chosen One" at the GFL draft. With 120 combatants joining the six separate teams, the Global Fight League conducted its first promotional draft Friday night. With Tyron Woodley chosen first overall by the Dubai team, the promotion promises to be the future of MMA, and in that future Tyron Woodley will be spearheading the charge. Having worn the belt from 2016 until 2018, Woodley is a former UFC welterweight champion. Woodley left UFC in 2021, though, on a four-fight losing run ending his career. Woodley then entered a pair of boxing contests against Jake Paul, losing both and not participated since. Not only did Woodley go early in the GFL draft, but he was not the only former UFC champion. Former heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum went fourth overall to the Sao Paulo Team; junior dos Santos, who lives in Miami, went third overall. While Miami chose back-to-back UFC champions, choosing former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis, New York's second round choice was recent UFC retiree and former middleweight champion Chris Weidman.
