Miesha Tate explains what fighting Kayla Harrison can do for her
Since Miesha Tate is aware that she will never be able to get back at Ronda Rousey for her previous defeats, fighting Kayla Harrison could be the best course of action for her in the future.
Tate and Rousey fought and lost twice, with their final meeting occurring in 2013. This rivalry is regarded as one of the most intense in the history of the sport. Tate later defeated Holly Holm, who won the UFC title by knocking Rousey out, but she was never able to rematch Rousey because the previous champion had already retired and had no intention of ever competing again.
Tate was clearly left with a bad taste in her mouth, but with two-time Olympic judo gold medalist Kayla Harrison now in the UFC, she may get the opportunity to face another fighter with a comparable skill level.
After competing against Olympic bronze medallist Rousey in judo, Tate said MMA Fighting, "I have desperately wanted to show how much better I can do now against a judoka than ever." "Because I simply didn't understand why I lost those first two matches to Ronda." My coaching staff is completely different now. I have people who can actually imitate someone with judo experience. When I was competing against Ronda, I couldn't find any women who were proficient in judo and who didn't mind if I punched them in the face in an attempt to avoid being tossed. I was unable to locate it. Although I did practice with several males, they lacked Ronda's level of sophistication. Many more were about muscling objects.
So ever since then, I've been working to improve my [judo] skills. I think I've got the tools at last. Therefore, I do believe it would be fantastic to fight Kayla Harrison at some point, even if it isn't for a title.
Tate, who will make her comeback against Yana Santos at the May UFC Des Moines card, makes it apparent that, in contrast to her tense interactions with Rousey, her desire to fight Harrison is completely personal.
She is aware that Harrison and Rousey are not the same type of fighter, but they are at least somewhat alike given their virtually identical judo backgrounds and propensity to beat opponents on the ground.
