Robert Garcia On Haney-Garcia Rematch
Robert Garcia On Haney-Garcia Rematch
Despite Ryan Garcia's 12-round loss to Rolando "Rolly" Romero via unanimous decision last Friday night in Times Square, New York, Jose Ramirez's trainer Robert Garcia feels the rematch between Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia will still be a "big fight."
The concern is not Ryan's loss. The true issue is Haney's dreadfully dull performance against Ramirez. Devin was the same person he usually was, but he was considerably worse than normal. It was evident that he was afraid of being struck after losing to Ryan Garcia. It appears that he has doubts about his chin.
It's Time to Purge
Turki Alalshikh is calling. He can still attend the October Garcia vs. Haney rematch if he so desires. It would likely still perform well, but it would be perceived as more of a Misfits-style, business-level battle.
It would be wise to cast Garcia and Haney adrift if you're Turki. Put them out of your mind and concentrate on the fun welterweights. Let Ryan and Haney become food for the sharks. Invest in putting up bouts between talented people like Norman Jr. and Boots.
After their performances, fans don't consider Haney and Ryan to be elite welterweights. Brian Norman Jr., Jaron Ennis, and Mario Barrios, the champions, would defeat both of them after defeating the leading competitors. They lack sufficient toughness.
Early on in the fight, Rolly (17-2, 13 KOs) knocked down Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) with a strong left hook in the second round. Since Ryan wasn't prepared to take any chances, he didn't need to do much more to keep the lead after that.
Given the intensity of the knockdown, Garcia's concern about Romero's power makes sense. A truck would have been overturned by the shot.
Garcia: "Ran" Haney
That was Devin's strategy. He was running in most rounds, so I don't say he was boxing. When his opponent, Jose Ramirez, lost to the uninteresting Devin Haney last Friday night in Times Square, trainer Robert Garcia told Fight Hub TV, "But that was his plan, he got the decision, and what can we say?"
When asked if Ryan Garcia vs. Devin Haney could not go forward because of Ryan's defeat to Rolando "Rolly" Romero last Friday, Robert responded, "Anthony Joshua lost his last fight and so did Tyson Fury, and if they fight each other, it's going to be huge." "Haney vs. Garcia will continue to be a fierce battle. They should still do it, in my opinion. Too large. Yes, I still believe they ought to do it.
