De La Hoya: Haney’s A “Runner,” Garcia Needs Romero Rematch

Ryan Garcia will seek a rematch with Rolando "Rolly" Romero to exact revenge for his defeat on May 2nd, according to Oscar De La Hoya's confirmation today. This is not a rematch with Devin Haney, the "Runner." He wants Garcia to have that one next. Haney, a "Runner" De La Hoya stated that there is "zero" desire in a second bout with Devin Haney, ruling out a rematch. He noted that Haney is a "Runner" and that his reputation suffered after his performance against Jose Ramirez on May 2. The timing of Garcia and Haney's rematch is currently unfavorable. Both must appear good and win. Devin needs to be brave enough to stand up to anyone he confronts next. Haney and his father, Bill, will not be pleased with that because they have been advocating for a rematch with Ryan since last year. Devin will have to face someone else now that it's off the table, and he doesn't appear to be capable of defeating anyone respectable. He won't be able to face another seasoned fighter without the supporters abandoning him. If Haney wants to keep enjoying the kind of money he received for the May 2nd event, he needs to face someone decent after getting his tune-up against Jose Ramirez. De La Hoya seemed uninterested in Garcia and Haney ever fighting again based on his speech. But Turki Alalshikh will probably decide to arrange the rematch. Devin might continue to give underwhelming performances, so that will need to happen quickly. Ryan didn't appear to be the Superman that defeated Haney the previous year. It's difficult to make the very limited Rolando "Rolly" Romero appear good, but he did it. Supporters believe Rolly got better. He didn't. Simply said, Garcia appeared mentally disengaged and uninterested in engaging Rolly in combat, even though he had to. Earning his rumored $20 million pocketbook was not something Ryan was capable of doing.
