Brian Norman Jr and Devin Haney have reportedly agreed to square off later this year

Brian Norman Jr., the WBO welterweight champion, has "verbally agreed" to fight Devin Haney "later this year," possibly in November. Norman (28-0, 22 KO) has become Jaron Ennis' successor in the division. He made his mark by beating the hot Giovani Santillan in a dramatic fight and then following that up with beatings of Derrieck Cuevas and Jin Sasaki, the latter of which is still the frontrunner for Knockout of the Year. At 24, he seems to be coming into his own, and he has always been must-see TV. Haney (32-0, 15 KO) will face his most accomplished opponent to date in very different conditions. Ryan Garcia's failed drug test didn't do enough to bring back the shine Haney lost in their fight. His return to the ring, a painfully boring decision over the washed-up Jose Ramirez, didn't make up for it. This is Haney's last chance, and it's also Norman's chance to get his name out there in the boxing world. I like the way the matches are set up here because Mario Barrios is busy and the WBA and IBF belts need new owners.
