BKFC parts ways with Alberto Blas
BKFC said it would no longer work with Alberto Blas, and the former champion responded strongly.
In a press release on Thursday, the bareknuckle boxing organization said that Blas was not living up to the promotion's principles and that they were ending their relationship with him because of "unprofessional conduct." There was a remark from BKFC president David Feldman in the press release.
The release says:
BKFC values discipline, being responsible, and respecting the sport both inside and beyond the ring. The athlete has done an amazing job in the ring, but because of frequent occurrences and behavior that goes against the organization's beliefs and image, it is time to split ways.
"We have a duty to protect the integrity of our promotion and the sport as a whole," stated David Feldman, the founder and president of BKFC. "There were a number of rule violations that led to this decision. We hope he does well in the future.
BKFC is still dedicated to producing world-class athletes that show the toughness and professionalism that are hallmarks of bare knuckle fighting. There will soon be an announcement about what will happen to the 135lb title, which is now vacant.
From 2022 to 2024, "El Indio" fought six times under the BKFC brand and won every fight via stoppage in the first round. Blas won the 135-pound title at BKFC 62 after knocking out Keith Richardson. He defended his title for the first time at BKFC 62 by beating Ryan Reber.
Not long after BKFC's press release, another bare-knuckle boxing promoter called BKB made its own announcement: it had signed Blas to a multi-fight deal.
Blas then posted a message on social media in response to BKFC's accusations of unprofessionalism, directly targeting Feldman:
In light of my signing with BKB Bare Knuckle Boxing by David Feldman, the former owner and face of BKFC, I'd want to respond to the false accusations made against me today.
I may not have a perfect record, but I stand by my reputation and want to call this what it is: a person who is insecure attempting to save face as the firm he established and then sold off continues to go down the drain.
I can think of two things that Mr. Feldman is probably talking about. The first one happened in 2022. Since then, the group has signed me, I have battled for them six times, and I have been elevated and called their champion.
In a more recent incident at the Hard Rock, I was provoked in the locker room, but I was the bigger man and went away. However, I was then followed around the casino and intimidated and harassed. My provocateur informed me that he would "kill my ass" when he "saw me in the street." I spoke up and defended myself.
The basic fact is that when I was with the organization, neither of these events was serious enough for Mr. Feldman (who still has some power) or BKFC to suspend or punish anyone. Since I last battled for the organization in September 2024, none of these topics have been brought up. The only reason they are being spoken about now is because signing with a bigger and better company hurts a man's delicate ego. I will not be intimidated or slandered. Mr. Feldman should have taken disciplinary action against me if I had done something wrong. He had the capacity and authority to do so. There wasn't, so he didn't.
Blas was talking about an arrest in Miami-Dade County, Florida, in 2022 for attempted felony murder causing injury and battery. A jury found Blas not guilty on both counts.
Blas, who is 30 years old and has a professional MMA record of 3-4, will now fight bareknuckle under the BKB name.
