Schofield and Edwards shine

World Boxing News provides a summary of Paul vs Chavez Jr undercard results from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez improved his standout record to 48-1, 30 KOs as the WBO and WBA cruiserweight champion, successfully defending his titles. Ramirez outscored Cuba’s former IBF and WBA cruiserweight champion and the WBA’s stipulated mandatory challenger, Yuniel Dorticós, after twelve rounds of action. Dorticos dropped to 27-3, 25 KOs as ‘The KO Doctor’ couldn’t compete with the superior skills of the champion. Despite a grueling fight from beginning to end, Ramirez came out on top 117-110 and 115-112 twice with the judges. Earlier, Mexican welterweight Raul Curiel made it 16 wins from 17 starts with a 14th career stoppage over Uruguayan Victor Rodriguez. The scheduled ten-round welterweight battle ended in the fourth round as Curiel knocked Rodriguez out to remain undefeated (16-0-1). Rodriguez suffered the first loss of his career. Avious Griffin pushed his CV to 17-1, 16 KOs by halting Julian Rodriguez late on. Only seconds remained when ‘Tha Underdog’ got the job done. Floyd Schofield The final bout of the Paul vs Chavez Jr DAZN PPV card saw Floyd Schofield put his Shakur Stevenson saga behind him to go 19-0, 13 KOs. ‘Kid Austin’ faced former IBF super featherweight ruler Tevin Farmer and wasted no time making a statement. Schofield dropped Farmer three times on his way to a superb first-round knockout, the seventh of his career. Farmer is now 33-9-1, with 8 KOs, and must assess where he goes from here. More than a decade after her last boxing match, former UFC champion and Boxing Hall of Famer Holly Holm put herself in the shop window by moving to 34-2-3, 9 KOs. Holm looked in good shape as she defeated Yolanda Vega on her Most Valuable Promotions debut. “The Preacher’s Daughter” handed Vega her first loss in 12 bouts as she pushed towards a potential world title shot later in the year. Holm used all of her combat experience from the ring to the octagon as she dominated for a unanimous 100-90 decision across the board. In the aftermath, Holm mentioned possible clashes with Stephanie Han, Amanda Serrano, or Katie Taylor in the future. Joshua Edwards vs Dominicc Hardy Esther Lin Joshua Edwards The preliminary card saw heavyweight Joshua Edwards once again stand out, who went three for three in the pro ranks against Dominicc Hardy. Edwards, already compared to Deontay Wilder, scored the second first-round KO of his career as he imperceptibly kept up his one hundred percent knockout ratio. The heavy hitter is on the path to superstardom if he can keep taking care of business inside the ropes. Further action saw Joel Iriarte move to 8-0, 7 KOs by defeating Kevin Johnson via unanimous decision. Scores read 80-72, 79-74, and 78-74 after eight rounds. Alexander Gueche also secured 8-0, 5 KOs via similar margins against Vincent Avina (8-2-1, 7 KOs). The featherweight, 19, won 80-72 twice and 79-73. Triumphs for Victor Morales and John “Scrappy” Ramirez rounded out the DAZN PPV bill.
