Ennis Withdraws: IBF Sets Sights on Crocker vs. Donovan Rematch
Jaron Ennis has officially given up his WBA and IBF welterweight championships, and both groups are now looking for new champions.
This Monday, the former unified champion started his rise to 154 pounds.
IBF Wants Crocker vs. Donovan Rematch for the Whole Title
Frank Smith from Matchroom has said that the rematch between Lewis Crocker and Paddy Donovan for the vacant IBF welterweight world title is almost set. The two clashed earlier this year in a fight that caused a lot of controversy and left things unresolved.
"Any day that should be finalized," Smith told BBC Sport NI at the end of June when asked about the rematch becoming a world title fight.
"That will clearly make the fight more interesting. There was a lot of talk about the first fight. This is their time to show who deserves to win and become the world champion.
"We're hoping to get an update on that in the next few days and hear from the IBF that it will be for a full world title."
Crocker is now ranked number one in the IBF, and Donovan is ranked number three.
Matchroom says that the IBF will formally approve the Crocker vs. Donovan rematch for the vacant belt this week.
