Sebastian Fundora looks forward to proving doubters wrong once again.
Sebastian Fundora looks forward to proving doubters wrong once again.
Sebastian Fundora, the WBC super welterweight champion, talked to the press for a while after his first press conference for his forthcoming title defense against Keith Thurman. Thurman has said that he thinks Fundora still has some problems from when Brian Mendoza stopped him a few years ago. Fundora, on the other hand, claims he isn't bothered about any of the trash talk that happened before the fight.
Fundora said that Thurman thinks he has PTSD from losing by KO in the past.
"I think going back to last year and beating the guy who beat me would fix a lot of those problems." My dad made sure that my mind is quite powerful. I think people talk about PTSD because it's something to think about. People tend to pay attention to those things since they have them too.
“He lost to Pacquiao, he’s been on the side for a while, he’s been saying COVID and all these things, so those things are going to be on his mind because those are things he’s thinking about. I’m not focused on that. I’m focused on Oct. 25th fighting with a former champion and winning and retaining my championship belt.
“I think I’m way past that (stoppage loss). I guess winning two titles or holding this title doesn’t show you guys so we just have to prove it again with Keith Thurman.”
On whether Thurman’s inactivity is an advantage for him
“It could be, it just depends on how I display it. But for me, in my case, I think it will.”
On what most fighters underestimate about him
“Through fight week I feel the questioning while I’m looking at them…I saw some things today but we’re just focused on winning. We’re focused on doing our thing and we’re excited for Oct. 25th.”
