Chris Eubank Jr ‘Could’ve been the difference between life and death’
Chris Eubank Jr. is going to face Conor Benn again later this fall. The press conference today started with both combatants talking. Eubank talked about Matchroom and Eddie Hearn and Team Benn trying to kill him in the first fight. Here are some parts of the news conference. You can see the whole thing by clicking the link above.
Benn talks about what he learned from losing to Eubank
"It's never easy to deal with a loss. Nobody wants to lose, but we all want to win at all costs. It taught me a lot about myself. I want to go back to the drawing board and work, learn, and get more experience. So you can be sure that on November 15th, you'll get a superior version.
Eubank talks about whether he respects Benn more following their first fight.
"It's a crazy, crazy world we live in now." I've been the bad guy and the villain in every bout I've had as a professional. People have loved to detest me for 14 years and 38 battles. But I don't want to get ahead of myself. From what I'm seeing online and talking to people all over the world on the streets, I don't know if I'm that person anymore. folks who don't even like boxing are coming up to me now, including little girls, old folks, housewives, and others. They're all saying hi and wishing me good luck. It's a humbling experience.
"I know for sure that Conor Benn put on a great fight. He did what I didn't expect him to do, but I'm going to tell you right now that you aren't a champ and you aren't a people's champ, so get that out of your head." If you keep letting Eddie Hearn talk down to you, you'll end up being even more of an embarrassment than he is.
"These men are not the people's men. They are faking it. They are acting like the nice guys. Like wolves in sheep's garb, if you will. They will do anything they can to go ahead, even if it means screwing over other people, cutting shortcuts, or breaking the rules. These men are ruthless, immoral, and have no limits.
"They did everything they could to beat me in this last bout. Contract violations, fines, terms for rehydration, a weigh-in that was messed up, unfair comments and refereeing. The list goes on and on. They stopped my team from getting to the stadium for 30 minutes on fight night. When I finally got there, security was walking in front of my car to slow me down and keep me from being late.
"It's amazing how low these men will go. I finally arrive to the stadium and into my changing room to get ready. Then they send jerks to try to mess with me in my changing room. We get through it, and then I go beyond these boundaries and win the war.
"Now that the fight is over, I'm in an ambulance and have to go to the hospital because I'm so dehydrated." I was so dehydrated that one of the toenails on my big toe fell off. I'm in the ambulance, and these jerks kept it from leaving the stadium for 20 minutes. I'm lying on a gurney with an oxygen mask on, and the car can't move because they won't open the gates to allow us go.
"That 20 minutes may have made the difference between life and death if I had really hurt myself. While all of this was going on, Conor Benn and Eddie Hearn were in here talking to the press and lying about how I had a fractured jaw and that was why I was heading to the hospital. The most skilled bullshit artists.
As you might think, Eddie Hearn would respond to Eubank Jr. by challenging him to directly accuse his company of misconduct, most likely to have grounds for a defamation lawsuit. So, this was just a normal news conference for these people, but Eubank wasn't done.
Eubank responded, "You know what? I want to talk about something else." "I want to talk about Robert Smith and the British Boxing Board of Control in more detail." This is the main boss who works behind the scenes. He really is a big deal. This moron let a bunch of reporters and cameramen inside my private weigh-in the day before the fight. It took a long time to get these folks out, which is why I missed the weight and had to pay a $500,000 fine.
"He let Conor Benn fight with gloves full of horsehair, even though he knew it was against the rules of the contract I had for this bout. He personally brought Billy Joe Saunders, my worst enemy, to my dressing room on fight night to mess with my plans and try to undermine my preparations for the biggest fight of my life. After the battle, he gets in the ring and tries to shake my hand. I mean, this man has some guts. It's very evident to me that this toad is just a puppet and a pawn. I believe that Matchroom and Eddie Hearn have him in their back pockets. So, sadly, there's simply another thug in this shady and dangerous business we work in.
