Brian Mendoza ‘Fundora is afraid of me’

Brian Mendoza wants to fight Sebastian Fundora for the WBC 154 lb title. This is two and a half years after Mendoza knocked out Fundora in an upset. Fundora's (23-1-1, 15 KO) only loss is to Mendoza, who is 31 years old. Fundora is going to defend his championship against Keith Thurman (31-1, 23 KO), who used to be the welterweight champion, on October 25. On the "Drew & Pris Uncensored" podcast, Mendoza claimed, "I knocked Fundora into another planet, and that's something he just can't forget." "He knows what happened, and deep down, he knows it could happen again." Fundora is afraid of me. He keeps not talking to me. He knows I'm a threat to that belt, and I'm not going anywhere. To be fair, Mendoza (23-4, 17 KO) won two more big fights after beating Fundora. Six months later, he lost a decisive decision against Tim Tszyu in Australia. In 2024, he lost by a huge margin on the cards to Serhii Bohachuk. His only win since the one-punch knockout of Fundora was on July 4 of this year in Mexico, when he stopped club fighter Jesus Antonio Rojas in the fourth round. But to be fair, Mendoza doesn't appear very qualified right now either. Thurman is 36 years old, has only had one fight at the weight (a TKO-3 over Brock Jarvis in March), and has only had two fights this decade. So, Mendoza might as well call out Fundora. He did knock him out cold the first time they met, and boxing isn't based on who is the best, but on who can make the most money. He should be doing everything he can to obtain the biggest fight possible, and that's probably all he needs to do.
