Gable Steveson finishes opponent in 15 seconds and request shot at UFC
Gable Steveson has hands too.
On Thursday night, Steveson made his Dirty Boxing debut against Billy Swanson at DBX 4 in Nashville. Despite the regulation change that took Steveson out of his comfort zone, the Olympic gold medalist had little trouble shifting to a striking-based sport, destroying Swanson in 15 seconds.
Steveson, who has only fought once in his MMA career, appeared to be at ease on his feet right away, coming across the ring and jabbing Swanson in the face. Swanson backed up and took a vicious punch, which sent him flying to the canvas, where the Olympian pounced on him, unleashing standing strikes until referee Dan Miragliotta stopped the fight.
Steveson is one of the top MMA prospects ever, and he is now training with former UFC champion Jon Jones. It is only a matter of time before Steveson joins the UFC, and he appears to agree, sending a message to UFC matchmaker Mick Maynard, who was in attendance.
"I think a special guest was here to watch me, but I'm just not sure where he is," Steveson tells me. "His name is Mick Maynard, and he is right there!"
"Mick, you have seen a little bit. I'd like to reveal a lot more. Hopefully, you believe in me, and I thank you.
